That is what a routine visit is for. Preventive care keeps small problems small and minimises the more complex procedures you would otherwise need.

The dentist looks over your teeth and gums for early signs of decay or gum disease, and your teeth are cleaned. If anything needs attention, you hear the options and the cost before treatment begins.

X-rays show what an examination cannot — decay between the teeth, and what is happening below the gumline. How often you need them depends on your teeth and your history, and the dentist will explain why any are taken.

That is more common than you would think, and it is not a problem. Come in for an exam and you will get a clear picture of where things stand and what the options are.
